Jets hold off Vikings, 29-20

The New York Jets used a big play late from their defense to hold on for a 29-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

The Jets lead by just a couple of points with minutes remaining, but a Dwight Lowery interception returned for a touchdown sealed the win.

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson came up just short of another 100-yard game, while Shonn Greene found the end zone.

Kicker Nick Folk had an extremely busy night, knocking home five field goals to account for a large part of New York’s points.

The Jets are going to need to get better at finishing drives, especially when it comes to the red zone.

Jets stomp Bills 38-14

The visiting New York Jets made quick work of the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills in a 38-14 mauling.

Running back Ladainian Tomlinson was the start of the show, rushing for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

Backup running back Shonn Greene also got in the act, running for 117 yards in mostly mop-up work.

Quarterback Mark Sanchez turned in another impressive performance and seems to have great chemistry with tight end Dustin Keller.

Keller finished the day with two more touchdowns and has emerged as one of the best tight ends in the league.

Revis out two weeks

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is expected to miss the next two weeks with a strained hamstring.

An MRI revealed the injury, which forced Revis out of last week’s game against the New England Patriots.

Revis has refused to rule himself out for next week’s game against Miami but admits that his hamstring is bothering him.

The Jets are privately concerned that it could take up to four weeks for Revis’ hamstring to completely heal. They can’t be too happy with Revis at the moment considering his long holdout was followed up by a big contract extension and now an injury.

Jets down Patriots, 28-14

The New York Jets bounced back in a big way with a 28-14 come-from-behind win over the New England Patriots.

It was a tense day for the Jets and their fans, who could only imagine the hoopla over an 0-2 start to the season.

The Jets trailed for the entire first half before their defense started to slow down New England’s passing attack.

The big news of the day was the play of quarterback Mark Sanchez, who finished with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson once again outrushed Shonn Greene and could take his starting spot in the near future.

Jets cut Coles

The New York Jets have cut veteran wide receiver Laverneus Coles, but he could end up back with the team.

Coles had a solid 2009 season with the Cincinnati Bengals, doing enough for the Jets to sign him to a contract.

The Jets brought him in before they were able to make a trade for Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Santonio Holmes.

This could be simply a salary move, as his contract would be guaranteed if he played during Week 1.

If Coles is not re-signed by the Jets for a fourth time, it could mark the end to his solid NFL career.

The New York Jets are certainly talking the talk on HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” but will they be able to walk the walk?

Head coach Rex Ryan has made it clear that they are Super Bowl contenders and anything short of that will be a failure.

He has unleashed expletive-laced tirades about everything from their Super Bowl chances to cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Hard Knocks worked out well for the Cincinnati Bengals last year, but most teams have fallen short of their goals after being featured on the show.

The Jets made a lot of moves in the offseason, but will it means a difference in the standings come January?

Holmes to miss start of camp

Offseason acquisition Santonio Holmes won’t be starting training camp with his new team. Citing a family matter, the team announced on Sunday that the former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver will miss the start of camp and join the Jets on Wednesday.

The news contributes to what was already set to be a less than ideal beginning for Holmes. He will miss New York’s first four games of the season while serving a suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. When he does finally make his debut, Holmes will be counted on to provide a spark to an offense that was inconsistent moving the ball through the air last season. It is imperative for him to get into camp to begin working with second-year quarterback Mark Sanchez, for which familiarity will be crucial to their success this season.

The team did add veteran wideout Laveranues Coles this week, but Holmes is easily the most consistent receiving threat the team has. Braylon Edwards, who was added last season and will play opposite Holmes, is typically among the league leaders in dropped passes.

Namath, Martin to head Ring of Honor

The New York Jets will create their first Ring of Honor at the new stadium and will induct six members in the first class.

Leading the group is championship quarterback Joe Namath and running back Curtis Martin.

Weeb Ewbank, Winston Hill, Joe Klecko and Don Maynard will also receive the honor from the team.

The members will be inducted into the Ring of Honor at halftime of the first preseason game against the New York Giants.

Jets not budging on Revis

The New York Jets do not plan on budging one bit when it comes to the contract demands of cornerback Darrelle Revis.

The two sides have reached a stalemate, meaning Revis is now considering sitting out training camp.

He already ruffled some feathers by making up injuries and illnesses to sit out of certain plays during offseason workouts.

The Jets believe they have made Revis a fair offer and will not be in a hurry to significantly raise it.

At some point, Revis is going to have to decide whether sitting out is worth wasting a shot at a Super Bowl.

Concerns over turf at Meadowlands

There is growing concern over the turf installed at the new stadium of the New York Giants and New York Jets.

Giants safety Antrel Rolle believes the turf is the reason why return man Domenik Hixon is out for the season with a knee injury.

Rolle said he was right there when the injury happened and that Hixon didn’t make a cut or anything.

He said Hixon simply got his foot caught in the turf, which caused his knee to buckle and the injury to occur.

The Giants general manager said the surface was not the reason for the injury, but several players said it was soft and slippery.
