Jets cut Faneca

The New York Jets made a surprising move by announcing the released of veteran guard Alan Faneca.

Faneca signed a deal with the Jets just a couple of years ago and was looking forward to finishing out his career with the team.

The multi-time All-Pro guard received a call from head coach Rex Ryan during the draft informing him of the decision.

Faneca said that he disappointed and angry that the Jets are looking to replace veterans with youth.

The team plans on replacing Faneca with this year’s second round pick or last year’s sixth round selection.

Jets trade Washington to Seahawks

The New York Jets traded running back Leon Washington to the Seattle Seahawks for a fifth round pick.

In addition, the Jets also received a seventh-round pick in return from the Seahawks.

Washington was coming off of a broken leg and was not happy with the way he was being treated by the team.

The Jets drafted USC running back Joe McKnight, so they felt that Washington was expendable.

It’s pretty clear that head coach Rex Ryan is trying to put his stamp on this team and also add an infusion of youth.

Jets stay put, take Wilson

The New York Jets couldn’t land any offensive line help, so they settled on another cornerback with the No. 29 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

The Jets already made numerous offensive and defensive upgrades in the offseason but wanted to add talent, youth and depth along both lines.

With no line players there to their liking, the Jets simply went with the best player available in cornerback Kyle Wilson.

Wilson was expected to go much earlier but somehow managed to slide down the draft board.

Defensive wiz Rex Ryan was more than happy to add another star cornerback to an already stingy secondary.

Jets looking to deal Clemens

The New York Jets are reportedly looking to trade backup quarterback Kellen Clemens.

Clemens was once thought of as a potential replacement for Chad Pennington, but didn’t pan out as hoped.

He still remains a quality backup and nice insurance policy should anything happen to starter Mark Sanchez.

It’s hard to understand why the Jets would be looking to trade him, especially considering the small return they would get in exchange for the quarterback.

If the team is unable to trade him, they might simply choose to release him outright. They have expressed interest in signing veteran Mark Brunell.

Jets sign Taylor

The New York Jets have signed veteran defensive end Jason Taylor to a two-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Taylor is leaving Miami for the Big Apple, and he said he expects Dolphins fans to send a lot of hate his way.

The Jets have been aggressively pursuing Taylor for weeks, but the defensive end remained non-committal.

He had remained hopeful that Miami might re-sign him depending upon who they selected in the NFL Draft.

In the end, Taylor ran out of patience and decided to sign with the team that would grant him plenty of playing time right away.

Holmes suspended four games

Recently acquired New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been suspended four games by the NFL.

Holmes violated the league’s substance abuse policy, and is now just one positive test away from a year-long suspension.

The wide receiver has all of the talent in the world, but doesn’t seem to care for whatever reason.

He was the top playmaker for Pittsburgh and won a Super Bowl during which he also received the MVP award for the game-winning catch.

Now he has been traded away for almost nothing, and it will be interesting to see how he reacts to a change of scenery.

Washington signs tender

New York Jets running back Leon Washington has finally signed his one-year tender from the team.

Washington is trying to fight his way back from a broken leg and hopes to be ready to play in time for the season opener.

The scatback is a nice change of pace out of the backfield and a very solid return specialist.

There is a small possibility that Washington could end up being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A rumor has been floating around that Washington is being sent to the Steelers as well as a fifth-round pick for wideout Santonio Holmes.

Jets acquire Holmes from Steelers

The New York Jets have acquired star wide receiver Santonio Holmes in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In exchange for the wideout, the Jets sent Pittsburgh their fifth-round selection in this year’s draft.

The move is just the latest by the Jets that signals an all-out push to get to the Super Bowl this year.

The team was just one win away from getting there last year, and that seems to have motivated the organization.

Holmes will now join a number of other talented wideouts who will make quarterback Mark Sanchez’ life a whole lot easier.

Jets pursuing Taylor

The New York Jets are aggressively pursuing former Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor.

Taylor’s better days are certainly behind him, but the Jets believe he can still be a very effective player in their system.

Head coach Rex Ryan is a very confident, even cocky guy, and he has supreme confidence in his defensive schemes.

Ryan is still in charge of calling the defensive plays and thinks Taylor would fit in well with the team.

The head coach had a lot of success in Baltimore plugging in players into his scheme despite being relative unknowns on previous teams.

Weatherford has heart procedure

New York Jets punter Steve Weatherford has undergone a procedure to address his irregular heartbeats.

He missed the team’s opening round playoff game against Cincinnati last year because of the condition.

It forced place kicker Jay Feeley to take over the emergency punting duties, and he fared remarkably well.

The punter is on blood thinners and said that the small procedure went really well and he feels great.

He is working out with the team at their voluntary workouts, so hopefully everything is all fixed.
