NEWS
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan isn’t happy running back Leon Washington isn’t attending voluntary workouts.
Washington is coming off of a serious knee injury but was a big part of the offense last year.
After signing LaDainian Tomlinson to a contract, the Jets have put Washington up on the trade block.
The running back probably hasn’t taken too kindly to that after all he has done for the organization.
He is continuing to rehab his leg at an off-site location, but Ryan thinks there is no place better to get healthy than right at the team’s training complex.

The New York Jets made it to the AFC championship game, and now they will become TV stars.
The Jets have been selected by HBO as the team they will film during training camp for their Hard Knocks series.
New York and Hard Knocks seems like a match made in heaven given the team’s brash head coach.
Ryan has already made an appearance on Hard Knocks before back when he was a position coach with the Baltimore Ravens in 2002.
Whenever you get Ryan around a microphone, madness ensues. I’m sure ratings will be plenty high this summer.

The New York Jets will open the 2010 season at their new stadium in a Monday Night game.
Originally, the Jets and New York Giants were fighting over which team could open up the new stadium.
The two teams agreed to a coin flip to determine which team would get the honor, and the Giants won the toss.
However, the Jets were immediately angry about the outcome and weren’t happy that no team officials were present at the coin toss.
The NFL then reversed course and decided that both teams would be allowed to open the stadium on back-to-back days.

Former San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson has signed a two-year contract worth $5.1 million with the New York Jets.
It’s probably the best fit for Tomlinson in terms of playing time after the Jets elected to cut veteran running back Thomas Jones.
He will now compete for playing time with second-year back Shonn Greene and Leon Washington, who is coming off of serious knee surgery.
Some believe Tomlinson could have a bounce-back season now that he is running behind a Jets offensive line considered one of the best in the NFL.
Tomlinson also strongly considered the Minnesota Vikings, a team that intrigued him because of their championship hopes and the chance to play alongside Brett Favre.

The New York Jets have advanced new cornerback Antonio Cromartie $500,000 to help take care of overdue paternity payments.
It seems that the Jets are more than a bit concerned about the money problems hanging over the cornerback’s head.
The team has said that it will not comment on any type of aid they are giving Cromartie to deal with personal issues.
They did say that they are trying to do everything they can to help him out to let him hit the ground running.
Cromartie has fathered seven children with six women in five different states, which is obviously going to be tough to deal with.

The New York Jets have traded veteran safety Kerry Rhodes to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for two draft picks in 2010 and 2011.
The Jets will receive Arizona’s fourth-round pick this year and seventh-round pick in 2011.
Rhodes, a former starter with the Jets, was benched last year by head coach Rex Ryan, who grew tired of the safety’s attitude and questionable play on the field.
The safety was very unhappy with his role with the Jets last season, and he wasn’t shy about telling the coaching staff exactly how he felt.
Interestingly enough, Ryan had compared Rhodes to Ed Reed when he was hired as the new Jets coach. I guess it’s just another example of Ryan opening up his mouth a little too often.

The New York Jets have traded a third-round draft pick to the San Diego Chargers in exchange for cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
If Cromartie reaches certain incentives, the third-round pick would then turn into a second-round selection.
Cromartie, a two-time All Pro, has really struggled the past two seasons and fallen off of the map.
The Chargers grew tired of Cromarties gambling ways in the backfield and were not happy with his postseason effort this year.
For the Jets, they have a chance to take some pressure off Cromartie by making him their No. 2 cornerback behind Darelle Reivis.

The New York Jets have given wide receiver Braylon Edwards a first-round tender offer, keeping him off the free agent market.
The team acquired Edwards last year in a trade with the Cleveland Browns and don’t want to lose him for nothing.
Edwards had a solid season with the Jets, but certainly did not put up numbers that would make another team give up a first-rounder to bring him in.
The Jets believe that Edwards made a big impact, some of which they said cannot be measured by statistics.
They cited his outstanding blocking and the fact that he made other defenses change their schemes because of his presence.

The New York Jets have cut veteran running back Thomas Jones to avoid paying him his roster bonus.
The Jets did not want to pay Jones the $3 million bonus, and the running back was unwilling to take a paycut.
The Jets will now go with running back Shonn Greene as the starter and need to find a backup for him.
Leon Washington is more of a third-down back and special teams guy and is coming off of knee surgery.
The Jets have the top-ranked rushing offense in the league behind Jones, so there has to be some trepidation with releasing him.
