Ryan Fined $50K For Middle Finger
The New York Jets fined coach Rex Ryan $50,000 on Tuesday for flipping his middle finger at fans during a mixed martial arts event on Saturday evening.
Ryan, whose brash behavior has been well-documented by the media this year, was caught making his obscene gesture on cell phone cameras…and ask Michael Phelps how that can turn out.
While the team fined Ryan, the NFL could also be levying a fine based on its conduct policy. After the Tennessee Titans beat the Buffalo Bills in November, owner Bud Adams was caught flipping the bird to Bills fans; the NFL fined Adams $250,000.
Ryan issued words of apology in a written statement, calling his actions “stupid.”
“I wouldn’t accept that type of behavior from one of the coaches or players and it’s unacceptable from me,” he said in the statement.
