NEWS
New York Jets running back Leon Washington will miss the rest of the season after breaking his leg.
Washington was injured when he was tackled early in the first quarter of the team’s shutout of the Oakland Raiders.
Players on the field said it was a gruesome sight as you could clearly see part of his bone protruding through the skin.
Rookie running back Shonn Greene saw extended time once Washington left the game and will now be the primary backup to Thomas Jones.
The good news is that it is an injury that you can come back from, so hopefully Washington is back to 100 percent next season.

A NFL spokesperson told the New York Post on Monday that WR Braylon Edwards has little chance of being suspended this season for his alleged role in a nightclub fight a few weeks ago.
On Monday, Edwards was charged with misdemeanor assault in Cleveland Municipal Court, stemming from an incident involving a promoter outside a Cleveland nightclub. The promoter, Edward Givens, happens to be a close friend of Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James.
The NFL spokesperson said that “under the PC [player conduct] policy, when a player like Braylon, with no prior history of conduct issues, has been charged, we wait for a court resolution. Then we would review the facts for any possible discipline.”
The Jets traded for Edwards two days after the alleged incident occurred, although Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum claims that the Jets knew of these allegations at the time they traded for him.
Tannenbaum believed that the “risk was manageable” to acquire Edwards, as the Jets traded away WR Chansi Stuckey and other role players for a potential No. 1 receiver. If nothing else, Edwards gives rookie QB Mark Sanchez a great safety valve, especially while WR Jerricho Cotchery continues to work his way back from an injury.

Jets QB Mark Sanchez has taken to the dogs – the hot dogs, after an on-field hot dog incident on Sunday.
Sanchez donated more than 1,000 hot dogs and hamburgers to the Community Soup Kitchen of Morristown, N.J., after being caught on camera late in the Jets’ 38-0 win over Oakland eating a hot dog on the sideline. He received a surprising amount of flack in the media on Monday and Tuesday for the hot dog incident.
“I want to apologize for that,” he said. “I wasn’t feeling very good and didn’t eat much before the game, so I was feeling a little queasy. Toward the end of the game, I probably should have eaten one of those bars or something, but someone offered [a hot dog], so I grabbed it and tried to be discreet about it, but obviously not discreet enough. So I shouldn’t have done that, and it won’t happen again.”
The week before, Sanchez was turning in the worst performance of his professional career, as he threw five interceptions in a 16-13 overtime loss to division rival Buffalo.
Something tells me that Jets fan would rather have the hot dog-eating Sanchez.

Jets WR Braylon Edwards has been charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from an incident that took place a few weeks ago at a Cleveland nightclub.
Edwards was accused of punching promoter Edward Givens, friend of Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James after getting into an argument with him outside of a club.
Cleveland city prosecutor Victor Perez officially filed the charges on Monday. Edwards faces a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Edwards’ attorney, Patrick D’Angelo, said that Edwards will plead not guilty. The arraignment has been scheduled for Nov. 17 in the Cleveland Municipal Court.
Both the league and the team plan on reviewing the matter, but both want to let the legal process play out first.
Edwards was traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Jets two days after the alleged incident.

After losing three straight games, the New York Jets responded with a 38-0 shutout of the Oakland Raiders.
It was obviously a very impressive effort on both sides of the ball for the Jets.
Quarterback Mark Sanchez played much better after struggling the last weeks and running backs Thomas Jones and rookie Shonn Greene both topped 100 yards rushing.
The defense had quarterback JaMarcus Russell benched by halftime and backup Bruce Gradkowski didn’t fare much better.
The only bad news to come out of the game was the injury to running back Leon Washington, who broke his leg and is out for the season.

Into the Black Hole? Not for Jets QB Mark Sanchez.
Sanchez threw for a score and ran for another as the Jets walloped the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, 38-0. In fact, the game was going so well that the QB’s day ended early… with him eating a hot dog on the sideline late in the game.
“I want to apologize for that,” Sanchez said.
The Jets’ plan was to reduce the workload of their rookie QB, who’d thrown five interceptions the week before in a loss to the Buffalo Bills. The plan worked to perfection, as the Jets became the first team in 34 years to rush for 300 yards in two consecutive games.
Despite losing backup RB and kick returner Leon Washington with a broken leg, the Jets pounded the Raiders on the ground all game and would not give up. The Jets rushed the ball 54 times overall – with starter Thomas Jones rushing 26 times for 121 yards and a touchdown, and rookie Shonn Green running 19 times for 144 yards and two scores.
“It makes it so easy on the offense when your defense is playing like that,” Sanchez said. “Hats off to them, they had a heck of a game to shut that team out. I don’t care who we’re playing, that’s a big-time accomplishment for our team.”
Coach Rex Ryan seemed pleased with the team’s effort, and especially with Sanchez’s error-free performance.
“Sanchez was great,” Ryan said. “He was just smart with the football. I think sometimes he could have put the ball on a receiver, but he was making sure the ball wasn’t intercepted. It was great to see him respond.”
The win moves the Jets to 4-3 on the season, as they now face a rematch with the Dolphins, with the Jets hoping to avenge a loss from three weeks ago.

The New York Jets were without wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery for their West Coast trip to take on the Oakland Raiders.
For Cotchery, it was the second straight game he missed due to a persistent strained left hamstring.
Cotchery’s absence certainly hurt the Jets, but it would have been a lot worse had the team not traded for Braylon Edwards two weeks ago.
Head coach Rex Ryan said he was hopeful Cotchery would be able to go but that he is confident he should be 100 percent next week.

Rookie QB Mark “the Sanchize” Sanchez will be down one of his favorite receivers this Sunday, as Jerricho Cotchery will not play against the Oakland Raiders due to an injury of his left hamstring. This is the second week that this injury has kept Cotchery out of game action.
“I was hoping Jerricho would be able to do it,” Ryan said. “We’re going to make that trip all the way out there and we feel it’s best if he stays back and rehabs. That’s what we’re going to do and hopefully get him back at 100 percent for next week.”
Jets coach Rex Ryan also announced on Friday that WR Brad Smith and cornerback Lito Sheppard will also stay on the sideline on Sunday, as both continue to rehabilitate injuries to their quadriceps.
Cotchery initially injured himself in practice in the week leading up to the game against the Miami Dolphins. Cotchery played in the loss to the Dolphins, recording one catch for 12 yards, but has not played since.
“I know he was getting better and all that,” Ryan said, “but at the end, we definitely don’t want this to be something where it happens all the time and each week we’re wondering, ‘Is he going to be up?’ And we don’t want to make it worse.”
Ryan believes that there’s a good chance Cotchery will heal up enough to play in the rematch against Miami next week.

The New York Jets were predicted by many to bounce back in a big way from two straight losses.
Instead, the Jets failed to protect their home turf in a surprising, 16-13 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills.
It was not a good day for rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, who threw five interceptions and was nearly benched by head coach Rex Ryan.
The Jets had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but the snap on a field goal attempt was bobbled.
New York will try to end their three-game losing streak with a trip to the West Coast to take on the Oakland Raiders in Week 7.

After a five interception performance, it’s only fair to expect that any quarterback would receive some skepticism. When it’s a rookie QB? Ask Jets coach Rex Ryan, who’s dealing with a five-INT performance from rookie Mark Sanchez.
As of Monday, Ryan said, “We’ve got the right guy.”
Sanchez tossed five picks in the Jets game against the Bills on Sunday, leading to the Bills scoring 10 points and coming back to tie the game to send it to overtime. Sanchez was particularly hard on himself after the game.
“I really let this team down and there’s no excuse for that,” he said. “I have a lot of work to do.”
Ryan doesn’t seem nearly as concerned as Sanchez.
“I just think we’ve got to do a great job at looking at what we’re asking this young man to do,” Ryan said. “Do we need to cut things back? Are there things that we could do to put on somebody else’s plate to take some things off his plate?
“I have a lot of confidence in Mark.”
