Jets acquire Cromartie

The New York Jets have traded a third-round draft pick to the San Diego Chargers in exchange for cornerback Antonio Cromartie.

If Cromartie reaches certain incentives, the third-round pick would then turn into a second-round selection.

Cromartie, a two-time All Pro, has really struggled the past two seasons and fallen off of the map.

The Chargers grew tired of Cromarties gambling ways in the backfield and were not happy with his postseason effort this year.

For the Jets, they have a chance to take some pressure off Cromartie by making him their No. 2 cornerback behind Darelle Reivis.

Edwards gets first-round tender

The New York Jets haveĀ given wide receiver Braylon Edwards a first-round tender offer, keeping him off the free agent market.

The team acquired Edwards last year in a trade with the Cleveland Browns and don’t want to lose him for nothing.

Edwards had a solid season with the Jets, but certainly did not put up numbers that would make another team give up a first-rounder to bring him in.

The Jets believe that Edwards made a big impact, some of which they said cannot be measured by statistics.

They cited his outstanding blocking and the fact that he made other defenses change their schemes because of his presence.

Jets cut Jones

The New York Jets have cut veteran running back Thomas Jones to avoid paying him his roster bonus.

The Jets did not want to pay Jones the $3 million bonus, and the running back was unwilling to take a paycut.

The Jets will now go with running back Shonn Greene as the starter and need to find a backup for him.

Leon Washington is more of a third-down back and special teams guy and is coming off of knee surgery.

The Jets have the top-ranked rushing offense in the league behind Jones, so there has to be some trepidation with releasing him.

Jets sign Folk

The New York Jets have signed former Dallas Cowboys kicker Nick Folk to a one-year contrct.

With Jay Feely set to become a free agent, the Jets wanted to act quickly to secure a kicker for next season.

However, Feely has made it clear that he would love to come back and play for the Jets next year.

It’s a little surprising, actually a lot, that the Jets would be so aggressive in going after Folk.

He made just 18 of 28 field goals last year for the Cowboys before he was released, and he did not catch on with another team.

Sanchez to undergo surgery

New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez will undergo surgery to repair the patella ligament in his left knee.

The surgery will help to reinforce the knee and prevent future tweaks of his left kneecap.

Sanchez dislocated his knee before his junior season at USC and has worn a brace ever since then.

He aggravated the injury against the Carolina Panthers in late November, but continued to play anyway.

Doctors say that the rookie quarterback will be 100 percent healthy in time for training camp in July.

Ryan fined $50K

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has been fined $50,000 by the team for his recent actions.

Ryan was at a Mixed Martial Arts event in Miami when he was introduced to the crowd.

The crowd booed Ryan, as many were probably Dolphins fans already sick of the loud-mouthed head coach.

Ryan responded by flipping the crowd off with his middle finger, though it did appear as though it was all in good fun.

The Jets quickly criticized his actions and Ryan issued an apology, but apparently that wasn’t enough.

Ryan flips off Dolphins fans

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan is back in the news again, and it’s not for anything positive.

Ryan, attending an MMA event in Florida, was booed when his name was announced to the crowd.

The head coach, displeased by his reception, gave the crowd the middle-finger salute.

Ryan eventually apologized for his actions, and the Jets issued a statement expressing their disappointment.

This type of conduct is subject to review by the NFL, so Ryan could be hearing from the league office.

Ryan Fined $50K For Middle Finger

The New York Jets fined coach Rex Ryan $50,000 on Tuesday for flipping his middle finger at fans during a mixed martial arts event on Saturday evening.

Ryan, whose brash behavior has been well-documented by the media this year, was caught making his obscene gesture on cell phone cameras…and ask Michael Phelps how that can turn out.

While the team fined Ryan, the NFL could also be levying a fine based on its conduct policy. After the Tennessee Titans beat the Buffalo Bills in November, owner Bud Adams was caught flipping the bird to Bills fans; the NFL fined Adams $250,000.

Ryan issued words of apology in a written statement, calling his actions “stupid.”

“I wouldn’t accept that type of behavior from one of the coaches or players and it’s unacceptable from me,” he said in the statement.

Sanchez contemplating knee surgery

New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez is contemplating undergoing surgery on his left knee.

Sanchez suffered an injury in college that caused a stabilization issue with his left knee and went to see Dr. Andrews for an opinion.

It’s not the same knee that Sanchez injured when he dove/slide awkward for a first down against the Buffalo Bills in Toronto.

Andrews also examined that knee during Sanchez’ visit and found no lingering issues.

After missing a game, Sanchez returned to the lineup and looked to have no lasting effects from that injury.

Rhodes’ future unknown

New York Jets safety Kerry Rhodes has not idea what the future holds for him, and neither does the team.

Rhodes, who was demoted earlier in the year, played very well in the playoffs to potentially boost his stock.

Head coach Rex Ryan has had private conversations with Rhodes, but no one knows what was said.

Rhodes and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine have not gotten along, although it’s important to note that Ryan is dialing up most of the schemes and plays.

Rhodes was once considered one of the building blocks of the franchise, but things might be different now.
